AnxietyNervous System Relief

Reconnect Center provides online anxiety treatment to adults across California, delivered entirely by telehealth. When anxiety is rooted in trauma, coping skills are not enough. We use EMDR, Brainspotting, and somatic therapy to address it at its source.

Understanding Anxiety Disorders

When anxiety becomes constant, your nervous system can stay locked on high alert. You are not broken: your body learned to protect you, and it can learn that the threat has passed. Our trauma-first telehealth care for adults in California works on both the worry and the physiology underneath it.

For many people, anxiety disorders have roots in traumatic experiences. When the nervous system has been shaped by threat, unpredictability, or lack of safety, it can remain locked in a state of hyperarousal long after the original danger has passed. At Reconnect, we treat anxiety by addressing both the symptoms and the trauma that drives them, and we provide online ptsd therapy when post-traumatic stress is part of the picture.

Obsessive-compulsive disorder is no longer grouped with the anxiety disorders in current diagnostic criteria, but it frequently occurs alongside them and responds to related treatment approaches. We treat it through a dedicated OCD program.

Recognizing the Signs & Symptoms

Anxiety affects your thoughts, emotions, body, and behavior, and coping with overwhelm is often part of the same struggle. Understanding these symptoms is the first step toward reclaiming a sense of calm and control.

  • Excessive Worry & Rumination — a mind that will not quiet, running through potential problems, replaying past events, and anticipating future threats. This chronic mental churn is exhausting and makes it difficult to be present.
  • Restlessness & Agitation — feeling on edge, unable to sit still, or carrying an internal sense of urgency. You may feel driven to keep moving, checking, or doing as a way to manage the underlying unease.
  • Muscle Tension & Physical Symptoms — chronic tension in the jaw, shoulders, back, or stomach. Anxiety lives in the body as much as the mind, and many people carry years of accumulated stress physically.
  • Panic Attacks — sudden surges of intense fear with racing heart, shortness of breath, chest tightness, numbness, dizziness, and a terrifying sense that you are dying or losing control. Panic attacks can occur with or without a clear trigger.
  • Avoidance & Safety Behaviors — structuring your life around avoiding the situations, people, or places that trigger anxiety. Avoidance brings short-term relief and a longer-term cost, because it progressively narrows your world.
  • Racing Thoughts — thoughts moving faster than you can catch or organize them. This cognitive flooding can impair decision-making, concentration, and your ability to communicate clearly under pressure.

When to consider more support: if these symptoms are disrupting your work, your caregiving, or your ability to leave the house, a structured program offers more contact hours than weekly therapy while you stay at home. Virtual IOP and Virtual PHP are both worth discussing during your consultation.

Our Therapeutic Approach

We combine top-down cognitive approaches with bottom-up body-based therapies, because anxiety lives in the body as much as in the thinking. Your trauma work is organized through the Reconnect Integrative Trauma Treatment Model (RITTM), developed by our founder Dr. Karol Darsa. Alongside RITTM, your plan can include CBT and DBT as standalone therapies.

The sequence matters: we establish stability first, work on processing second, and integrate third. Pacing is set with you, not imposed on you.

Programs for Anxiety Treatment

The level of care that is right for you depends on how significantly anxiety is affecting your daily functioning. Our team will help determine the best fit during your initial consultation. Every program is delivered by telehealth to adults in California, and there is no in-person or residential option.

What to Expect When You Begin Online Care

Starting treatment when you are already anxious is its own hurdle. Here is exactly what happens, so there are no surprises.

  • Consultation Call — tell us what is happening, what you have already tried, and what your schedule allows. All communications are confidential.
  • Insurance Verification — we check your benefits for you and explain what we find. Verification is obligation-free and completely confidential.
  • Clinical Assessment — a licensed clinician completes a telehealth intake to determine which level of care fits your presentation and your goals.
  • Your Treatment Plan — we map the therapies and the schedule to what you are working on, and we go through the plan with you before anything begins.
  • Starting Online — you receive your session schedule and everything you need to join securely from home. No travel, no waiting room.
  • Ongoing Review — your plan is reviewed as treatment progresses and adjusted as your needs change, including stepping down to a lower level of care when that becomes appropriate.

Online Anxiety Treatment Questions

How does online anxiety treatment work?

You start with a consultation, complete a telehealth clinical assessment, and enter the level of care that fits: Virtual PHP, Virtual IOP, Evening IOP, or Virtual Outpatient. Sessions run over secure video on a set schedule. Your plan may include EMDR, Brainspotting, somatic therapy, CBT, DBT, and mindfulness work.

Can anxiety be treated without medication?

Therapy-only treatment is an option, and it is what we provide. Reconnect Center is a therapy-based program: we address anxious thinking and the nervous system responses underneath it, using EMDR, Brainspotting, somatic therapy, CBT, DBT, and mindfulness. If you currently take medication for anxiety, that stays between you and your prescriber, and we work alongside it.

Is online therapy for anxiety effective?

Research on telehealth-delivered psychotherapy for anxiety has been broadly encouraging, and the format matters less than whether the care is structured and evidence-based. What matters most is that treatment is specific to your presentation and that you can attend it consistently, which is often easier without a commute.

What kinds of therapy work for anxiety?

CBT and DBT work on thinking patterns and distress tolerance. EMDR, Brainspotting, and somatic therapy work with the body’s threat response. Mindfulness gives you something repeatable to use between sessions. They do different jobs, and we combine them according to your presentation rather than applying a fixed protocol.

How is trauma-focused anxiety treatment different?

Anxiety is often the visible layer over an unresolved traumatic experience. Treating the worry without addressing what drives it tends to leave the underlying pattern in place. Our approach, organized through the RITTM model, works on the root alongside the symptom, which is why body-based therapies sit next to the cognitive ones.

Do I need a program, or is weekly therapy enough?

It depends on how much anxiety is interfering. If you are functioning but struggling, Virtual Outpatient may be the fit. If anxiety is disrupting work, caregiving, or leaving the house, a program with more contact hours like Virtual IOP or Virtual PHP is worth discussing. The clinical assessment is how that gets decided, not a guess on either side.

How long does online anxiety treatment take?

Length depends on the level of care and what you are working on. Progress is reviewed regularly and the plan is adjusted, including stepping down to a lower level of care as that becomes appropriate.

What should I do before my first online session?

Find a private space where you will not be interrupted, test your internet connection and camera, keep water and something to write with nearby, and leave yourself a few minutes afterward before your next commitment.
