OCDEvidence-Based OCD Treatment
OCD traps you in cycles of intrusive thoughts and compulsive behaviors that feel impossible to break. At Reconnect, we treat OCD at its roots with evidence-based therapies that free your mind and restore your sense of control.

Understanding Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder affects approximately 2-3% of the population, making it one of the most common mental health conditions worldwide. OCD is characterized by a cycle of obsessions — unwanted, intrusive thoughts, images, or urges that cause intense distress — and compulsions — repetitive behaviors or mental acts performed to reduce that distress.
For many people, OCD has roots in traumatic experiences. Research shows that individuals with a history of trauma are significantly more likely to develop OCD, and trauma-related OCD often requires specialized treatment that addresses both the obsessive-compulsive patterns and the underlying traumatic material. At Reconnect, we understand this connection and treat the whole person, not just the symptoms.

Contamination OCD
Intense fear of germs, dirt, chemicals, or bodily fluids leading to excessive washing, cleaning, or avoidance of perceived contaminated objects, people, or environments.
Learn MoreChecking OCD
Persistent doubt and fear that something terrible will happen, driving repeated checking of locks, appliances, work, or even bodily sensations to prevent perceived catastrophe.
Learn MoreIntrusive Thought OCD
Disturbing, unwanted thoughts about harm, violence, or taboo subjects. These thoughts are ego-dystonic — they contradict your values — yet feel terrifyingly real and produce intense shame.
Learn MoreOrdering & Symmetry OCD
An overwhelming need for things to be arranged in a particular way, perfectly symmetrical, or aligned "just right." Disruption of this order triggers intense distress and the compulsion to rearrange.
Learn MoreHoarding OCD
Difficulty discarding possessions due to a perceived need to save them or distress associated with letting go. Often linked to traumatic loss, fear of waste, or attachment difficulties.
Learn MoreRecognizing the Signs & Symptoms
OCD symptoms go far beyond perfectionism or tidiness. The disorder creates a relentless cycle of distress that can consume hours each day and significantly impair quality of life.
- Intrusive Obsessions — unwanted, recurring thoughts, images, or urges that cause significant anxiety or distress. These can involve fears of contamination, harm to self or others, unacceptable sexual or religious thoughts, or a need for symmetry and order.
- Compulsive Rituals — repetitive behaviors or mental acts performed in response to obsessions, such as hand washing, checking, counting, repeating phrases, or arranging objects. These rituals are performed to reduce anxiety but provide only temporary relief.
- Avoidance Behaviors — going to great lengths to avoid triggers — certain places, people, objects, or situations that activate obsessions. Over time, avoidance narrows your world and reinforces the OCD cycle.
- Mental Compulsions — internal rituals such as mental reviewing, counting, praying, or neutralizing thoughts. These invisible compulsions can be just as time-consuming and distressing as physical ones.
- Reassurance Seeking — repeatedly asking others for confirmation that things are okay, that you have not caused harm, or that your fears are unfounded. This provides temporary relief but feeds the doubt cycle.
- Difficulty with Uncertainty — an inability to tolerate doubt or ambiguity. OCD demands absolute certainty, driving endless checking, analyzing, and reassurance-seeking in a futile attempt to eliminate all doubt.
Our Therapeutic Approach
We combine gold-standard OCD treatments with trauma-informed care, addressing both the obsessive-compulsive cycle and the underlying experiences that fuel it.
Exposure & Response Prevention (ERP)
The gold-standard treatment for OCD. ERP involves gradual, supported exposure to feared situations while resisting the urge to perform compulsions, teaching your brain that anxiety naturally subsides without rituals.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
CBT helps you identify and challenge the distorted beliefs that fuel OCD, such as overestimating threat, inflated responsibility, and the need for certainty. Combined with ERP, it creates lasting change.
Learn MoreEMDR Therapy
When OCD is rooted in trauma, EMDR can process the underlying traumatic memories that drive obsessive patterns. By resolving the trauma, the OCD symptoms often diminish significantly.
Learn MoreMindfulness-Based Therapy
Mindfulness teaches you to observe intrusive thoughts without engaging with them or performing compulsions. This builds the capacity to sit with discomfort and break the automatic obsession-compulsion cycle.
Learn MoreSomatic Therapy
OCD creates intense physical sensations — the "not right" feeling, the surge of anxiety, the tension. Somatic approaches help you process these body-based experiences without resorting to compulsive behaviors.
Learn MorePharmacotherapy Support
When appropriate, we coordinate with psychiatrists for medication management. SSRIs and other medications can significantly reduce OCD symptoms, especially when combined with therapy.
Programs for OCD Treatment
The right level of care depends on how significantly OCD is impacting your daily life. Our team will help determine the best fit during your initial consultation.
Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)
For severe OCD that significantly impairs daily functioning, including extensive rituals, severe avoidance, or OCD co-occurring with other conditions requiring intensive daily support and structured ERP.
Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)
For moderate to severe OCD that benefits from multiple weekly sessions combining individual ERP therapy, group skills training, and structured exposure work within a supportive community.
Outpatient Therapy
For mild to moderate OCD or as ongoing support after completing a more intensive program. Focused individual sessions for ERP, trauma processing, and skill development.
Break Free from OCD
OCD does not have to run your life. With the right treatment, you can learn to respond to intrusive thoughts without compulsions and reclaim the freedom to live on your own terms.
