We’re a long way from the dark ages when mental health was a dirty word and going to therapy was a shameful secret. Even though much of the stigma surrounding mental health has been chipped away over the past few decades, the methods of treating mental health often remain shrouded in mystery. Intensive therapy, in particular, can evoke images of helpless patients under the firm control of cold, callous medical staff. But at the Reconnect Integrative Trauma Treatment Center, nothing could be further from the truth. This article will shed some light on the regenerative promise of Intensive Mental Health Treatment.
Every single year, millions of Americans receive competent treatment for bouts of depression, anxiety and other mental illnesses with simple mental health therapy. For these kinds of issues, methods like mindfulness-based cognitive therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and other forms of talk therapy that consist of regular, outpatient meetings between a mental health patient and a trained therapist can be more than adequate. In most cases, a combination of talk therapy and prescription medication are all that’s needed to treat mental health issues and substantially improve patient quality of life.
However, patients suffering from more severe cases of mental illness may benefit from a more comprehensive form of treatment like an Intensive Mental Health Treatment program. Unlike talk therapy, where patient and therapist meet weekly or bi-weekly for sessions that last up to an hour, patients enrolled in an Intensive Outpatient Mental Health program at the Reconnect Center meet either three or five times a week with clinical staff for three-hour sessions. Inpatient treatment involves five hours of therapy per day for five days a week. Under the supervision of our team’s founder, Dr. Karol Darsa, our patients will receive from our group of elite therapists, most of whom are licensed clinicians at the master or doctoral level with a specialty in the treatment of trauma.
Patients enrolled our Intensive Mental Health Treatment program are usually burdened by a form of mental illness which has significantly disrupted their daily lives and routines. This form of therapy gives them a focused, intimate, and personalized environment where they can focus on healing and growth. With a combination of group and individual therapy, our patients receive the high-level care that they need to build the lives that they deserve.
At Reconnect, our team utilizes a number of high-level techniques to start and speed the healing process. These techniques include: Somatic Therapies, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Brainspotting, Mindfullness, DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy), Neurofeedback, Art Therapy, Acupuncture, Yoga, Recovery Coaching, HeartMath, and building the patient’s Resilience Toolkit. We utilize such a variety of techniques to try and tailor-make our approach to each individual. The care should match the patient, not the other way around.
During the minimum recommended treatment duration of two weeks, our patients will have the opportunity to take advantage of our housing offerings at Reconnect. Rather than place our patients in sterile, impersonal hospital living quarters, at Reconnect, we offer our patients a place to stay in one of our beautiful residential homes in our neighborhood as part of our Supportive Housing Program. Our focus at Reconnect is on comfort, stability and high-level, high-quality care, and we encourage all of our patients to take advantage of our Supportive Housing program during their duration of care. During Intensive Mental Health Treatment, we attempt to disengage the patient from debilitating routines or harmful environments and build new, heathier more functional lives. Our Supportive Housing program is a key aspect of our goal of giving our patients a kind of “reset” where they can safely grow and heal.
