RESIDENTIAL PROGRAM 2017-04-28T18:30:32+00:00

Residential Program

Residential treatment is 24-hour care, which is provided in the comfort of a home (as opposed to a hospital).  People who benefit from this level of care are those who are not able to function adequately in their daily lives due to the severity of their trauma symptoms (e.g. depression, dissociation, anxiety, agitation, poor sleep, flashbacks, self-imposed social isolation, chronic fear, and more).  Some people are able to do trauma work in lower levels of care; others cannot be adequately contained outside of program hours due to inability or limited ability to tolerate their symptoms without professional support.

Our program is the first of its kind in that we provide a nearly equal number of individual and group therapy per week.  Each client receives 16 hours of individual treatment and 17 hours of group therapy per week.  Our core modalities are EMDR and Neurofeedback, both of which are evidence based treatments for PTSD.

Family involvement

Working through trauma requires a lot of support from those closest to the client.  This is why we have a strong commitment to including family members and other support people in each client’s treatment.  We have a weekly 90-minute group, which both support people and clients attend together.  The goal of this group is education and support for both the support people and the clients.  Each week, we have a different topic or exercise, which is chosen based on the needs of our current milieu.   We come from a perspective of responsibility, not blame.  We believe that parents do the best that they can, given their own upbringings and circumstances.  Our focus is on healing and moving forward in new and healthier ways.  In addition to the weekly group, we do individual sessions with the client and her support people, as indicated by her treatment plan.

We also encourage parents and spouses to participate in their own out patient therapy, for which we can provide referrals.  The clients are getting a lot of help and support and it is important that the supporters have someone who is educated about trauma to help and support them as well.
